SD II
Proteins are the building blocks of the body and are found in all living cells. The word “PROTEIN” comes from a Greek word meaning first, because proteins are thought to be the MOST IMPORTANT PART OF LIVING MATTER. The body does not store protein. As it is used up, it must be constantly replaced. Most of the cells in our body, are replaced every 160 days. Our vital organs change more quickly - the liver regenerates every 2 weeks. Since these organs are made up of protein, ONLY PROTEIN CAN BE USED TO BUILD, REPAIR OR MAINTAIN OUR BODIES.
SLIM DIET II uses isolated Soy Protein as the basis of its power dietary and energy supplements. Isolated Soy Protein – The protein component which is separated from the rest of the soy bean offers the same high quality protein as milk, meat and eggs, but contain essentially no saturated fat and no cholesterol. It is also flavourless and odourless.
FIBREMAX
Fibre is a vital part of the diet which unfortunately, most people are not getting enough of. Fibre is a group of substances that are plant-based materials that pass undigested into the bowel. They include non-starch polysaccharides and resistant starches.
Fibre is generally categorized into either soluble or insoluble forms. Insoluble fibre does not dissolve in water, while soluble fibre forms a highly viscous solution when mixed with water. Insoluble fibre is found in whole grains and brans of wheat, rye, rice, corn and cellulose. Soluble fibre is found in fruits, barley, oats, gums, psyllium and pectin. Generally, insoluble fibre is better for lower intestinal health and soluble fibre is better for lowering cholesterol and aiding in the control of diabetes and obesity.
The effects of dietary fibre on bowel habits are well known, i.e. shortened transit time (this also means that toxic wastes are removed from the body faster), increased fecal output and moisture. High fibre diets create slow, even food absorption from the intestines. This process helps keep the insulin level steady. If you want to reduce your cholesterol level, then increasing your levels of fibre to 40g per day should have a beneficial over time.
Most of us don’t get enough fibre. The recommendation is 30 to 40 grams of mixed fibre per day. This level was selected as being the most efficient for control of body fat and prevention of cancer of the colon and/or rectum, as well as helping with cholesterol control.
FibreMax is a blend of chicory root extract, psyllium, soy fibre, oat bran and pectin. It is formulated to provide a medium for intestinal cleansing in gentle, effective way. The five natural fibres that were selected for FibreMax have their own special properties.
Chicory Root Extract
The soluble fibre from chicory root is extracted without the need for chemicals. In fact just boiling water is used. The extract has a naturally sweet taste but is not absorbed by the small intestine and so is safe for diabetics to use.
Extensive research has demonstrated that ingestion of moderate amounts of chicory root extract result in a significant increase (5-10 times more) of the beneficial bifidobacteria in the intestinal tract. At the same time the presence of less desirable bacteria is significantly reduced. This is proof that each gram of this extract is of special benefit to bifidobacteria, stimulating their metabolism and increasing their activity, potentially leading to a healthier colon.
Psyllium
Many types of soluble fibre are largely fermented in the colon and thus have little effect on stool bulk. Psyllium (a soluble fibre) the husk material of Plantago ovato, is the exception to this rule having a beneficial stool bulking effect.
Psyllium has been shown to significantly lower blood cholesterol levels, which, in turn, helps to reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. Psyllium could almost be called a ‘wonder’ fibre with the benefits of both insoluble and soluble fibres.
Soy Fibre
Soy fibre also delivers benefits typically associated with both soluble and insoluble fibre sources.
These benefits include the following:
Oat Bran
Oat bran is mainly composed of the soluble fibre called beta-D glucosan. It forms a highly viscous solution when mixed in fluid.
A number of studies have been done on the cholesterol lowering effects of oat bran. The indications are that those with elevated cholesterol levels appear more responsive than those with normal levels can profit from increasing their oat bran intake.
Pectin
Pectin is another almost completely soluble fibre made from an extract of the rind of citrus or from apples. It too, has a cholesterol lowering effect and is a useful agent in obtaining and maintaining intestinal health.
GYMNEMA
Let’s face it, sugar tastes good, and we all succumb to its sweet temptation. But sugar is bad. Dieticians and nutritionists agree that refined sugar, even in the relatively small quantities absorbed by health-conscious people, does no good. Enter the sugar killer: Gymnema sylvestre, an Indian herb used medicinally for 2,000 years.
Gymnema has been laboratory proven to suppress a craving for sugar. The chemical composition of Gymnema actually prevents your taste buds from being activated by sugar. And according to a study published in Physiology and Behaviour (30;1983;1-9), Gymnema does more than just turn the taste of sugar into sand. It actually blocks the absorption of sugar during digestion!
The reasons for reducing sugar intake are manifold. Associations have been made between too much sugar and hyperglycemia, diabetes, allergies, hyperactivity, cholesterol, obesity, osteoporosis and anaemia. And the list of secondary effects and disorders is literally endless.
But deciding to reduce sugar intake and actually following through are two different things. Let’s face it; sugar tastes good; we have a natural attraction to sweet foods and in some cases we have developed dependencies on it that rival the strongest physiological addictions.
Gymnema extract is obtained from extracting the active principle, gymnemic acid, from the leaves of Gymnema sylvestre. Gymnema extract promises benefits in two major forms in our battle againt sugar. The extract is from Gymnema sylvestre, a woody, vine-like plant (belonging to the Asciepiadaceae or milk weed family) which grows naturally in India, where it has been used medicinally for more than 2,000 years.
It has been the favoured folk remedy for diabetes, among a number of other applications. This plant has the amazing characteristic of being able to block the taste of sugar. According to folklore, after chewing a leaf of Gymnema sylvestre, sweet foods no longer taste sweet. Gurmar, the Hindi name for the plant, literally means “Sugar destroyer”. Of course, the sugar isn’t really destroyed. The chemical composition of the Gymnema sylvestre plant prevents taste buds from being activated by the sugars in food. The effectiveness of the leaves suggests its potential.
How fortunate that it selectively abolished the perception of sweetness, without changing other taste perceptions. (This can also be useful in children’s diets.) The healthful, nearly sugar-free diet that we strive for can be more easily within our reach. Used as a supplement, Gymnema extract may reduce the effects of the taste of sugar added to our food and may even reduce the biological effects of sugar.
LITE SEASONER
Too much sodium in our diet can cause a myriad of health problems, yet it adds flavour.
Lite Seasoner is a great way to continue enjoying the taste of salt – without the potentially harmful health problems associated with too much sodium. It is a potassium-based mineral with only a fraction of the sodium content of ordinary salt. Let your body reap the benefits of a healthier diet.
URISCAN As as essential part of the SDII Weight Loss program, Uriscan Ketone Sticks enable you to monitor youe weight loss as your diet progresses. These urine test strips are designed to monitor your fat burning process (KETOSIS) through measuring the Ketones released in the urine. Ketone Sticks will let you know if you need to alter carbohydrate intake, exercise or water.
